Lisa Kingry — Artist Biography

Based in the coastal landscape of Kailua-Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii, Lisa Kingry creates abstract paintings that celebrate color, motion, and uninhibited creative freedom. Her process is entirely intuitive; she approaches each blank canvas without premeditation, no preliminary sketches, and no rigid rules. Instead, she allows her eye for vibrant, unapologetic color and organic form to guide her hands in real-time.

Working primarily in fast-drying acrylics—and occasionally oil, Lisa builds rich, textured layers where shapes, enigmatic human faces, and expressive florals bloom organically. Because she is a self-taught artist, her work bypasses traditional formal constraints. It leans deeply into raw instinct, curiosity, and the sheer joy of physical expression.

Lisa’s distinctive abstract pieces have captured the attention of local collectors, selling through her personal website, private exhibitions, and the notable juried Art is Healing exhibition hosted by the Hawaiʻi Island Community Health Center. While her current practice relies on this beautiful, unmapped dialogue between paint and canvas, she balances her instinctual approach with grand artistic ambitions, keeping her sights set on future formal classical fine art studies in Florence, Italy.
